Legacy System Review: MacBook 1.1 Plastic White 2006
Intel Core Duo 32-Bit with 2GB RAM
One of my hobbies is experimenting with new and old technologies. As new technologies are expensive, my last impulse was to buy an old 2006 MacBook (plastic white) on eBay to see what a 16-year-old machine is capable of.
The machine cost me 45 euros, but if you look hard on eBay you can find them even cheaper, depending on the condition and year of release.
MacBook 1.1
At the time of its launch in 2006, this was the entry-level model for Apple laptops. Its construction is completely plastic, thus separating it from the more advanced models with metal construction (although the internal specifications were the same). This was also one of the first Apple laptops to use an Intel processor. At the time, Intel processors began to offer advantages over Apple’s G4 and G5, so the transition to Intel systems was Apple’s bet.
The base configuration offered an Intel Core Duo 2GH processor, with 512 of RAM and 60 GB of HDD hard disk. However, the model I bought has an upgrade to 2GB of RAM (the maximum for this processor) and 120 HDD.
